Marina Rebeka stars as ‘Thaïs’ at the Salzburg Festival

Marina Rebeka returns to the Salzburg Festival on August 16, to star in the title role of Massenet’s Thaïs. She previously made her debut at the Festival as Anaï in Rossini’s Moïse et Pharaon ou le Passage de la mer Rouge, conducted by Riccardo Muti and directed by Jürgen Flimm. The concert presentation of Thaïs is a centerpiece of this year’s festival, and also features Plácido Domingo as Athanaël and Benjamin Bernheim as Nicias, with conductor Patrick Fournillier and the Münchner Rundfunkorchester. Ms. Rebeka is replacing soprano Sonya Yoncheva, who has withdrawn from the performance due to illness.
